Devastated Dillon Says Boom Pup 50/50 to Return

CABOOLTURE trainer Rusty Dillon says the comeback chances of his potential superstar chaser No Easy Beat are about 50-50.

CABOOLTURE trainer Rusty Dillon says the comeback chances of potential superstar No Easy Beat are 50-50.

The son of Zambora Brockie-Lilly Sur Seine injured both back muscles when tailed off in a heat of the Young Guns at Albion Park last Thursday night when he was the $1.12 favourite.

He had gone into the race with a career record of 12 starts for seven wins and three placings but his scorching times around Albion park indicated his future was at Group 1 level.

He had already won there in 29.60 bettering the time best of his own Group 1 winning sire Zambora Brockie.

A devastated Dillon said he had taken No Easy Beat to vet John Murray at the weekend and he found the dog had a clear tear through one back muscle and a slight tear in the other.

“He kept going after the field so that was not going to do the injury any good,” said Dillon.

“But, John told me to keep the dog walking and the signs are all good that he might make a comeback to the track.

“At this stage there is very little bruising and the dog does not appear to be in any pain at all.”

But, Rusty Dillon has decided he will also utilise No Easy Beat at stud while he is in the three to four month recovery process.

“I will get things rolling to register him at stud and then get semen collected for him,” he said.

“We have that much faith in him.”

John Murray recommended not to undertake any procedures to repair the back muscle injuries preferring to allow it to heal naturally.

“But I will keep him walking and gradually start the process of getting him using it along the way,” said Dillon.

“At this stage his return to racing is 50-50.”

No Easy Beat is owned by Kevin Bryant the long-time dog man who has had such great success in the past few decades as a trainer and now rearer and owner.

Kevin has only just come out of hospital after undergoing a heart bypass operation.
