Deverell Eyes Sixth Tasmanian Derby Title

TASMANIA’S most talented youngsters will be in action at Launceston on Monday in the coveted Tasmanian Derby and Sires On Ice Tasmanian Oaks.

TASMANIA'S most talented youngsters will be in action at Launceston on Monday night with the running of the Greyhound-Data Tasmanian Derby and Sires On Ice Tasmanian Oaks.

Master trainer Butch Deverell took great steps towards securing his sixth Tasmanian Derby title after landing the opening heat with Inner Circle at $25 from box three.

The Barcia Bale and Flying Roswell chaser held out Simmo's My Bro to run 30.04, bringing up his sixth victory from 26 starts for owner/breeder Karlene Cuthbertson.

In a top training effort by the Penguin-based Deverell Inner Circle was returning from a dislocated toe when finishing down the track in the Illingworth Classic Final in August.

Deverell will have two runners in the Derby with Pair's Six finishing second to Lord Disick.

The Blake Pursell-trained Lord Disick, a son of El Grand Senor and Hope We Win, pulled out all stops to run down Pair's Six in scoring by a head clocking 29.93 to register a fifth career win.

With the tables turned, Inner Circle has drawn seven with Pair's Six in four for the Derby final.

Due to a lack of nominations the Sires On Ice Tasmanian Oaks is held as a final only in 2020.

Star chaser Wynburn Lethal completed her Oaks trial last Monday with a dominant invitation win.

The Ben Englund-trained Dyna Double One chaser notched up her ninth career victory from 14 starts over the sprint trip, holding Rachael at bay to score by almost five lengths in 30.00.

Rachael has again drawn the red box which gives trainer Butch Deverell a runner in each feature.
