PETER Lagogiane rolls out the second of his National Draft runners in Friday night’s heats of the Steeline Riverstone Maiden (535m) at Richmond.
Rock Solid, a son of My Bro Fabio and Rhonda Rocks, making him a younger half-brother to dual group 1 winner Sennachie, will go around in heat one on Friday night from box five.
“He’s had a bit of a checkered passage to get to the races but without declaring him I expect him to race well,” Lagogiane offered.
“In six months I’d say he’ll be a real nice dog. He hasn’t got a bit to learn, he’s got a lot to learn. He’s still very immature around home but he’s showing ability.
“Whatever he does Friday he’ll strip a lot fitter for next week in the final – if he gets through.”
Rock Solid is the second of Lagogiane’s National draft runners to hit the track after Ainsley Flash finished midfield on debut at Richmond on Wednesday.
“I’ve had some excited owners on the phone looking forward to his (Rock Solid) debut. That’s what this concept is all about … it’s all good fun,” Lagogiane added.
Last year, Lagogiane landed the Steeline Maiden Final with his talented sprinter Double Back – a series that’s proven to be quite the form reference.
Finishing behind Double Back in last year’s final were chasers the calibre of Feral Franky and Good Odds Buddy.
As well as Rock Solid’s appearance in heat one on Friday night, Lagogiane is also represented by debut runner Vintage Barolo in heat five from box two.
“He’s well boxed and I expect him to lead but at this stage running out a strong 500 could be the query,” Lagogiane explained about the son of Go Wild Teddy.
On a night of terrific racing at Richmond this Friday, five heats of the $10,000 to-the-winner maiden series are set down for decision.
Trainer Rob Tyler takes three runners into the heats, with Zipping Blondie (heat 2), Zipping Brady (heat 3) and Zipping Red (heat 4) all reportedly trialling the house down leading into their debut outings.
Intriguing opening heat with four runners in and around favouritism. ROCK SOLID (5) and KHATANGA BAY (2) are atop of betting, just ahead of first starters CLASSY EMGRAND (3) and WHISKEY THROTTLE (4). Khatanga Bay debuts for new trainer John Finn after five previous appearances and is definitely the query runner.
ZIPPING BLONDIE (1), a litter sister to Zipping Garth and Zipping Truvy, makes her debut off some slick trials from box one and has been installed favourite. CASINO ACE (3) lines up with three placings from the five starts for John Finn and is well in the market while the well-bred SESAME (7) looks the value runner for Chris O’Brien at around $14.00.
ZIPPING BRADY (4) ran a powerful 29.36 in a Gosford 515 metre performance trial recently and looks more than capable of getting around the 30.50 mark in this with a clear run in transit. Box four the query. Betting has fellow first starters LANMORE DOLLARS (2) and LIBBY’S FANCY (3) closest in the market, both coming into the race with tidy trial form for connections.
This heat has quite a few with exposed form. Debut runner ZIPPING RED (7) is another that’s been sizzling in trials but box seven is the potential hang up here. MISS KHATANGA (4) is another that’s having her first start for John Finn after six previous starts and stays under notice. CLASSY ETHICS (2) looks another key player on debut from the nice draw and is being kept tight in the market.
VINTAGE BAROLO (2) looks the leader but will he see out the 500 first up? ZIPPING DONATO (1) looks well boxed sitting up in box one and is showing good ability while Luke Azzopardi’s first starter MAGIC EMGRAND (6) lines up off a slick 26.62 Bulli 472-metre trial. The other runner in the market is PRIM AND PROPER (8) – recent trial at Richmond was handy.
