Elite Machine Cracks $1m In Brisbane Cup Success

WA raider Elite Machine surpassed $1m in prizemoney earnings with a dashing victory in the G1 Brisbane Cup (520m) at Albion Park on Friday night.

WA raider Elite Machine surpassed $1m in prizemoney earnings with a dashing victory in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup (520m) at Albion Park on Friday night.

Trained by Jamie Marsh, Elite Machine upstaged a star-studded field to race to Brisbane Cup glory and add a second group 1 following his Perth Cup heroics earlier in the year.

Following the race, Marsh was beaming about the performance of his kennel star.

"He's gone amazing," Marsh said.

"To prove himself like this on the big stage away from home is so satisfying. He came here with a job to do and he hasn't missed a beat. It's hard to put into words the emotions."

While in Queensland, Elite Machine has been in the care of Tony Brett, who was also overseeing the preparation of race favourite Postman Pat.

Following a moderate getaway, Postman Pat had to do it the hard way, but never shirked his task, finishing runner-up.

Third was grand old campaigner Mepunga Warrior.  The winning time was 29.60.

Meanwhile, the second group 1 of the night, the Queensland Cup (710m), produced a thrilling finish with race favourite Palawa King edging out Locked On Scotch.

The narrowest of margins separated the pair across the line with WA raider Rippin' Grace a further three-quarters of a length away in third.

The victory continued the remarkable run Forbes trainer Jack Smith has enjoyed in Queensland in recent years, firstly with retired superstars Feral Franky and Jungle Deuce and now Palawa King.
