Exciting Garth Pup Named To Perfection

WHEN the time came to name a Zipping Garth-Khatanga Eve pup he had just bought, Lance Day ran a few ideas by his trainer, Pillar Valley veteran Reg Gardoll.

“Every name I came up with Reg knocked back,” said Lance.

“I finally said I would call the dog Captain Reg and he really did blow up. Finally, I said I am over thinking about this and that's how he got his name.”

Over Thinking, raced by Lance and trained by Reg, took his record to five starts for three wins when he started $1.60 favourite and won at Grafton over 450m on Sunday.

“He's a handy dog,” says Reg.

“I got him by mistake,” admits Lance.

Lance went looking at some pups near Dennis Barnes' Cudal property and it was brought to Lance's attention that Dennis' daughter Sandra had a young dog for sale.

“He was an only pup in the litter, had been educated, spelled and given one trial,” said Lance.

“I was offered him for $4000. You could not rear him for that.

“I didn't even look at him when I bought him.”

Over Thinking is one of a number of dogs Lance has in Reg's kennels and the hope is that he will run 600m in the future.

His dam Khatanga Eve was a Wentworth Park winner and is from the Barnes' famous Gay's Fancy direct damline.

“She was probably going to get 600 metres,” said Lance of the dam. “She was a fast bitch and I'm told Dennis and Sandra are breaking in a Feral Franky litter out of her.”
