Exciting Pup Set For Breeders Classic Debut

Four intriguing semi-finals of the Custom Resources & Recruitment Devonport Breeders Classic (452m) highlights Tuesday afternoon’s Devonport card.

Four semi-finals of the Custom Resources & Recruitment Devonport Breeders Classic (452m) highlights Tuesday afternoon's Devonport card.

The Tasbred series sees the state's best well-bred youngsters take their place in the time honoured event.

Outstanding Aston Dee Bee-sired sprinter Wynburn Sheean headlines the series for trainer Ben Englund.

The excitement-machine goes into the series off a sensational 25.41 qualifying trial heat win and will start a red hot favourite for semi-final three.

Another of the more intriguing series runners is debutant Recall for Brighton based conditioner Jack Jury.

The son of American sire Superior Product and Princess Roman debuts off a slick 25.66 qualifying heat win.

"Recall is a talented pup and he continues to impress me with what he's showing in trials," Jury said.

"Heading into the heats the previous weekend I wasn't exactly sure what to expect because he was up against a performed dog that's won a few races already.

"But to win the way he did in that time was fantastic and he's only come on since that effort. I couldn't be more pleased in his progress."

Recall will make his official race debut in the opening semi-final of the Devonport Breeders Classic, jumping from box eight, taking on the David Crosswell-trained Vintage Fame off box two, a previous 25.46 Devonport winner.

Jury is hopeful the wide draw will help his fawn sprinter's chances of qualifying for next week's rich final.

"He should begin cleanly and hopefully get that cart across towards the rails," Jury said.

"After the qualifying heats I would have preferred to give the dog a start but it just didn't pan out.

"He's in good order going into Tuesday and while it's not the easiest start to his career he's showing enough ability to prove he can be competitive.

"Whatever the result it's a great place for him to start."
