Explicit Set To Take Stud Scene By Storm

WOW! That’s just about all anyone can use to describe Explicit’s remarkable 37-start race career, dotted with 27 wins and earnings of $1.978m.

WOW! That's just about all anyone can use to describe Explicit's 37-start race career, dotted with 27 wins and earnings of $1.978 million.

To go to stud after winning the G1 Melbourne Cup and G1 The Phoenix at his final two race starts is the stuff of which dreams are made.

Explicit (Bernardo-Brueghelino) is just that … a dream. The champion race dog with 27 wins from 37 starts and $1.936 million. His service fee has been set at $4400.

It was well publicised by trainer Jason Thompson (he freely admits he's the best greyhound he has trained), that Explicit would retire to stud once his The Phoenix commitments were completed.

EXPLICIT AT STUD

He did it with an all-the-way win in 29.72 … just like the all-the-way Melbourne Cup victory in 29.29 at his previous start.

Explicit didn't need his greatest fan, trainer Jason Thompson, to sing his praises during his race career.

The dog did that himself.

He is Temora track record holder, and as well as winning the G1 The Phoenix and G1 Melbourne Cup, he also landed the G1 Temlee, G2 Shepparton Cup, G2 Ballarat Cup and G3 Great Chase.

He was second in the G2 Horsham Cup and a finalist in the Million Dollar Chase, G1 Brisbane Cup, G1 Topgun, and The Sandgroper.

That he could run like a rocket is known to anyone who handles a collar and lead, or punts on greyhound racing the fastest sport on legs.

Explicit won in 29.48 at Albion Park, 29.63 at The Meadows, 28.97 at Sandown, 29.19 at Wentworth Park and when taken to the provincials he went 24.76 at Ballarat, 24.66 at Shepparton, 26.92 at Horsham, 24.76 at Warrnambool and 25.61 at Geelong.

Try keeping up with that … few could.

Explicit's sire Bernardo has emerged from the domination of Barcia Bale and then Fernando Bale to become a leading stud dog. He is the sire of the winners of $23 million.

Bernardo's offspring includes names like Aussie Secret, Baby Jaycee, Saige Tenniele, Hector Fawley, Rippin Grace, Umberto, Stealth, Fabs Vegetable, Shima Shadow, Pass The Buck, Follow The Band, Bernie Burrow and Bezzecchi.

The list goes on and on.

Explicit's litter also includes Here Comes Millie (13 wins, $174,000, G1 Sapphire Crown, 2nd Aust Cup Consol, finalist G2 Laurels, Cup Night Sprint).

Their dam, Brueghelino (10 wins, $71,000, finalist G1 Hume Cup, G1 Sale Cup, G1 Rookie Rebel, G3 Dillon Memorial), is a litter sister to Big Flood (33 wins, $186,000, 3rd G1 Golden Easter Egg) etc.

Brueghelino is also dam of Aston Gwen (G2 Laurels, finalist G1 Rookie Rebel, G2 Shepparton Cup, G2 Warragul Cup, G2 Ballarat Cup), Alpine Butterfly (finalist G1 Sale Cup), Deep Witts (finalist G3 Provincial Plate), Sovereign Wind (3rd G3 Great Chase).

Brueghelino's sister, Tidelina, is the dam of Skinny Olive (31 wins, $125,000), Zara Marnie (15 wins, $85,000, finalist G1 Maturity), Here Comes Artie (16 wins, $73,000, finalist G1 Harrison Dawson), Spot Fox (16 wins, $65,000) all by Bernardo.

This is the direct damline of the Wheeler family's famed foundation broodbitch Gail's Beauty coming through the branch that produced legend Odious.

Explicit retires to stud a three-time Group 1 winner

All these facts prove is that Explicit is a "NOW" greyhound, with a pedigree producing Group stars and champions like himself.

So, what bitches will suit him now that Explicit is at stud.

Bernardo is very proven with both the Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale influence.

His classy gallopers Maybe Yesterday and Dr Tucker are out of daughters of Barcia Bale.

The G1 star Saige Tenniele and Group winner Afire are both out of daughters of Barcia Bale's son Dyna Double One.

Both Umberto and Stealth, G1 stars, are out of dams bred along similar lines to Barcia Bale.

Pass The Buck (finalist The Phoenix, G2 Wgl Cup, G2 Trar Cup, G2 Ben Cup, G3 Great Chase) and his litter sister Lamia Mila (finalist G2 Laurels) are out of a daughter of Fernando Bale.

So is Qld star Get Carter (QGOLD Emerging Sprinters, 2nd G1 Ips Gold Cup, G3 Qld Flame, QGOLD Summer Sprint) and My Hepburn (2nd G1 Paws Of Thunder, 3rd G2 Gos Cup, G2 Rich Oaks, G3 Xmas Gift).

Add to this, star WA sprinter Bezzecchi (WPk 29.12, 2nd G2 Mandurah Cup, The Westchase, finalist Million Dollar Chase) is also bred on this Bernardo/Fernando Bale cross.

So what does that say about potential mates for Explicit?

Bitches with Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale are EVERYWHERE. Bitches with Barcia Bale and Fernando Bale are absolutely ideal for Explicit.

In fact, if he never mated any other bitches, it would not be a worry.

Explicit with Jason Thompson after breaking the Temora track record

A special mating could be to bitches with My Bro Fabio who is bred along similar lines to Explicit's second dam Easy Baby.

Hooked On Scotch bitches will suit because his half sister On The Runway has produced a great litter to Bernardo.

Feral Franky and Good Odds Harada bitches should do well with him. They carry Mogambo as their damsire and Mogambo was mated to Banjo Boy's mother to produce champion Sweet It Is.

Banjo Boy is damsire of Explicit.

Fernando Bale daughters are especially suited to matings to Explicit.
