Exploded Track Record Highlights Mackay's Return

JASON Mackay's sensational comeback to training continued at Grafton on Sunday night when Exploded broke the track record over 660m.

Mackay has now had 10 starters since his return to training for eight winners and two thirds.

Exploded (Shima Shine-Appointed) ran 37.89 to beat a gallant She Is Fire by two and a half lengths in a Middle Distance Stake with almost 12 lengths to third placed Hurricane Rocky.

Shipwreck had held the Grafton 660m record at 38.00.

"He is a fool proof dog," Jason said of Exploded.

"He's a true 700 metre dog and a powerhouse in the final 50 metres.

"It was no surprise to me that he broke the record."

Exploded, which won the Group 1 Queensland Cup at Albion Park in July when under the care of Tony Brett, was sent north by owner Amanda Tullio to Mackay early in August.

He won first-up at Wentworth Park in 41.64.

"He'll go quicker there too," Jason added.

Immediate plans for him are to run in a 715m race on Black Top Final night at The Gardens on September 27 and then go into the heats of the G2 Sydney Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park on October 11.

Jason says he missed training during his enforced break but took time to revamp his training complex at Richmond Vale.

He also won at Grafton on Sunday night with Recycled (Aston Dee Bee-Appointed) a dog sent north by Jason Thompson's kennel, also owned by Amanda Tullio.

"He is a very nice dog and I will point him to the Grafton regional series of the Million Dollar Chase," Mackay said.

Mackay has only 12 dogs in training.

He drew special mention of long time mate Milo and his youngest daughter Rose who have been an integral part of the kennel's return to racing and success.
