Fast Trial Has Cataclysmic Set For City Breakthrough

NORTHERN Rivers star Cataclysmic is on trial for a run in the upcoming Young Guns series at Ipswich when he runs as hot favourite in a 4th-5th Grade (520m) at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Allan Lang owns and trains the son of his own group winning sprint star Paw Licking and Magic Liar.

He has drawn the rails on Thursday night and is coming off a narrow second to top class sprint bitch Hara's Skye there in 29.89 back on February 16.

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY

“It was his first look at Albion Park and he broke 30 seconds getting beaten,” said Allan.

“I was very happy with his run.

“And he has drawn the rails this week and he loves the rails.”

Cataclysmic is an extra smart sprinter having started just 32 times for 21 wins.

Among those wins is the G2 Lismore Cup and he was second in the Wauchope Cup back in January.

“He's trialled at Casino in preparation for Thursday night's race and is ready,” said Allan.

Cataclysmic passed Lang's Casino test recently to earn the right to head to Albion Park.

“I usually wait until they can break 15 seconds run home at Casino before taking them to Albion Park for a 520 metre race,” he said.

“He has started doing that lately.

“That's the guide.

“He had not had a look at the track before he ran Hara's Skye to three-quarters of a length at Albion Park a couple of weeks ago.”

Cataclysmic won his first eight in succession all at Casino and has been slowly stepped up in distance since then.

Allan highlighted the Young Guns series at Ipswich, the heats to be run on March 18 with the final on March 25.
