Flying Bazza's Career In The Balance

THE career of Flying Bazza appears all but over after suffering a serious stopper tendon injury at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

THE racing career of Million Dollar Chase finalist Flying Bazza appears all but over after suffering a serious stopper tendon injury at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

"You can say that's racing but I really feel for his owners, they get a huge thrill watching him race no matter what it's in," said his trainer Jason Mackay.

Lining up as a red hot $1.40 favourite for the seventh event at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night, Flying Bazza took off up the back straight before appearing to shorten stride and lose momentum off the top turn.

Miraculously, he still finished strongly when straightening up to only go down by three-quarters of a length.

"He's got a big ticker the dog – he tore his pin (muscle) as well," Mackay said.

"You can see off the top bend he lost stride and his head and tail went up in the air.

"There's stopper tendons that they can come back from but this one is as bad as they can get. You can try and operate, do stem cell treatment and all that … but they never come back the same. It's a bit like a zipper on your pants, if it's with the grain you're a hope but against it like this it's near impossible.

"He's heading home for a second opinion so we'll see what happens."

Winner at seven of his 16 appearances, and responsible for some sizzling times, Flying Bazza's racing career was just beginning to take flight.

His fourth placing in last Friday night's TAB Million Dollar Chase Final, running 29.65 himself, was another giant leap forward for the prodigiously talented son of Barcia Bale.

"It's been a dirty few days. Aston Duke ripped a nail off last night (Wednesday) and Aston Sapporo pulled up injured. And at Bulli on Monday Whiskey Jack won but he's pulled up with an injured hock so he's off for x-rays. He can't put his foot down."
