Flynn Makes Winning Racetrack Return

HARRY Manolitsis will decide in the coming weeks whether comeback sprinters Get It Gizmo & Flynn will return to Sydney for a tilt at the Million Dollar Chase.

HARRY Manolitsis will decide in coming weeks whether comeback sprinters Get It Gizmo and Flynn will return to Sydney for another tilt at the TAB Million Dollar Chase (520m).

At Bendigo on Saturday night the pair, which have spent the majority of 2020 on the sidelines with serious injury, recorded strong victories for proud trainer Harry Manolitsis.

"It's been more like an emergency ward at our place this year rather than greyhound kennels," Manolitsis said.

"But to see both boys win on Saturday the way they did was very pleasing. It's been a long road back but we all do it. Especially with dogs the caliber of these two.

“But being realistic I'd say the two of them are two to three lengths off where they were before their injuries. Whether that changes with more racing only time will tell."

Going into Saturday night's Bendigo card, reigning Topgun winner Get It Gizmo was having just his fourth run back following a career threatening hock injury.

Flynn on the other hand was first up since March, off the scene after sustaining a dropped back muscle injury.

Get It Gizmo defeated Cranbourne Classic winner Taken over the 500 metres in 27.90, while Flynn scored over the 425 metres in 24.05, a world away from the then 23.37 track record he posted at the venue in February last year.

"I've brought them both along very slowly and given them time to find their feet," Manolitsis added.

“A lot of work goes into the rehab … it's morning and night seven days a week so when they do return it's quite rewarding. But it's the dogs more than anything else.

"People can forget easily but before he broke his hock Get It Gizmo was close to the fastest dog in the country when he won the Topgun.

“What level he gets back to is hard to say but being a year older and losing a bit with the injury might see him just as a very nice free for all dog now. We'll just see."

This time last year Get It Gizmo and Flynn were right in betting for the TAB Million Dollar Chase where Get It Gizmo finished third in the final behind Good Odds Harada.

And while it's not totally off the cards, Manolitsis says a crack at the race this year is more unlikely than likely.

"There's a lot to consider but mainly it will be how they go in the next few weeks with their performances," he added.

"I won't be sending them up just for the sake of it if they're not capable of winning.

“It's just great to have them back racing.”
