Racing Form Preview: Thursday August 15

The Greyhound Recorder's best bets, lays, value tips and quaddie selections for metropolitan racing this Thursday night from right around the country.

IT'S a rather quiet Thursday on the feature race front but the night's racing does look to dish up some rather intriguing clashes, including the opener at Angle Park where star sprinter Fabwik takes on an in-form Fantastic Yankee.

Our lay for the night rolls around at Angle Park also where we take on Victa Caleb in race six off the red box … a courageous move given he's won 24 of his 52 starts.

NOTE: Times are listed in Australian Eastern time.

SANDOWN PARK – Race 2 (6.22pm) Number 1, SECURITY CODE

Promising type who's only had the seven starts but boy was he impressive at Sandown last Friday when powering into top gear from mid race to score in 29.80. Had box five on that occasion so expect the rails draw tonight really suits and at around the $2.50 mark expect he continues on his winning way. The inside means more to some dogs than others, expect with this fella that's certainly the case.

ANGLE PARK – Race 1 (7.07pm) Number 4, FABWIK

The first at Angle Park shapes up as one of the races of the night between Fantastic Yankee and Fabwik. Early markets have them around even money each. I'm with Fabwik who has recorded two slashing wins since returning to SA. Winner at 26 of 51 overall, she has an Angle Park PB of 29.48 and just with the experience edge, happy to go with her tonight. Fantastic Yankee ran a ridiculous 4.23 first section (29.47 overall) winning four starts back, makes for a terrific race tonight.

DAPTO – Race 4 (8.22pm) Number 2, INSTANTANEOUS

600m event where betting has it as a two dog race between Instantaneous and Winnie Allen. With Instantaneous to make a winning 600m debut for Peter Sims, drawn to lead and out on the lure expect he'll prove mighty hard to catch at a track he excels at. Recent form has been a little mixed but they've been in harder races from tough boxes. Gets a fair bit in his favour tonight.

SANDOWN PARK – Race 8 (8.34pm) Number 4, WHISKEY RIOT

Toughed out a gritty 29.69 win here off the six last week in an easier class so will need to step it up another notch tonight but have no doubt he has it in him. The week before he finished a top second to Sennachie in the G1 Maturity Classic and if he begins cleanly tonight expect him to post some serious time. Strong field tonight but there's not a stack of early speed and pressure which really gives him a chance to drive through and find the top.

ALBION PARK – Race 9 (9.37pm) Number 4, STEVICK

Progressive staying type from a litter that's doing good things over the longs in three different states. This fella has been in the money at five of his eight runs at the track and distance, remembering one of those efforts was in the Group 1 Gold Cup Final in June. Takes on Ellie Grace tonight who is first up over the 710m, promises to be a top race but with the miles in his legs with Stevick to land the prize.

** LAY **: ANGLE PARK – Race 6 (8.58pm) Number 1, VICTA CALEB

Let me start by saying he's a weapon. Winner at 24 of 52 … explosive speed, all that … you can see where I'm going. However, at the odds-on quote tonight in the small field just thought he was a risk with some handy types engaged. If Errington serves it up to him early things will become very interesting. No knock on the dog at all, how could you with that record? More so the price in the reduced field.

BEST BET: SANDOWN – Race 8 (8.34pm) Number 4, WHISKEY RIOT

BEST VALUE: SANDOWN – Race 4 (7.04pm) Number 3, MAJOR INNINGS

Talented sprinter who's bounced back to winning form with a couple of Warrnambool successes the past fortnight. Is $6.50 early doors for tonight which looks generous odds given he has rather solid two turn form as well. Can begin and has raced well at Sandown in the past … should give us a good sight at decent odds.
