Form Preview: Wentworth Park, Friday Jan 17

All the form and analysis for a big program of racing at Wentworth Park this Friday featuring the heats of the Group 1 National Derby and Futurity.

FRIDAY NIGHT WENTWORTH PARK FORM

Race 1

First of the Futurity heats where the unbeaten ASTON MAEVE (3) makes her Wenty debut. Been spectacular in three Maitland wins to begin her career and did trial here last week so not new to the track. SNEAKY MARQUEE (1) disappointed at her city debut from this box last start when a short priced favourite, she's shown good ability at the provincials and can atone. Look for FABULOUS PENNY (5) to show a stack of speed, she's won 10 of her 18 starts including one here with sizzling sections. Next best LILLY BANNER (4).
TIPS: 3,1,5,4

Race 2

ZIPPING VEYRON (5) strung six wins together before last week's disappointing sixth placing at Wenty. Back to her own age and sex here, from a suitable middle draw, happy to go her way. Has the runs on the board. Haven't minded either of LANMOR CUTIE'S (2) city performances, including her 30.09 win on NYD. Has the speed to position prominently. Expecting a run from KOORINGA LUCY (7) as well. Finished second in the Qld Futurity last month and has very good form lines for this. Should be brought on by the look at the track last week too, finishing fourth behind the very smart Run By Night.
TIPS: 5,2,7,8

Race 3

Favouritism is with the unbeaten ASTON SILK (1) for trainer Jason Thompson. Three wins at Sandown to start her career and is improving each time on the clock. Gets the gun draw and did trial at the track last week in readiness for the series. It's a heat where I expect something at decent odds to run a real race. Enter MRS. SHARP (5). Victorian that hasn't won for a while but has been racing strong company from bad boxes. Draw no better tonight but sometimes the change of scenery can bring about a change in fortunes. FANTASTIC GIGI (7) won here last start in moderate time but is capable of quicker; expecting CUMBRIA BELLE (4) to speed but at this stage 520m does look a stretch.
TIPS: 5,1,7,4

Race 4

Very open Futurity heat with interstate visitors YINDI GIRL TURBO (3) and LITTLE EARNER (5) right in the market. Victorian Yindi Girl Turbo heads to Sydney off a stylish 25.75 (best) Geelong win while SA chaser LITTLE EARNER (5) has trialled at the track and comes here with six wins from nine starts showing dynamite early speed. Gone with PHILADELPHIA PIP (2) at the better value, Victorian that comes to Wenty chasing three on the trot. FORNER'S FLAME (8) has won each of her three starts and will be better for her first up win here last week in 30.23. One of the more difficult races on the program so looking for value.
TIPS: 2,3,8,5

Race 5

Bet of the night WILD FLYER (1). Loved her recent Bathurst wins, gets the benefit of box one, and she's a bitch going places. KAMIKAZE COWLICK (4) is over the odds for mine. Qld Futurity finalist last month that has trialled here in very quick time. Winner 12 of 24 so brings great credentials into this. ASTON PERIGNON (5) talented Victorian on her night but has the tricky five draw; DESIREE DEVERE (2) another right in betting, winner recently in 30.11 and should improve off that run.
TIPS: 1,4,5,2

Race 6

Heat one of the Derby. Hard to go past HALBERD BALE (6) for the Andrea Dailly camp. Enjoy huge success when they come to Sydney and this dog scored in 29.82 in FFA class at The Meadows last start. Back to own age and sex here with a vacant box inside sees him hard to toss. HIGHLY EFFECTIVE (3) made it 7 from 14 with a 30.57 Richmond win last Friday; has recorded 30.29 at Wenty previously and is showing all the right signs that he can make the step up. MY MATE CLARRIE (7) went a fast 4.98 early winning at The Gardens on Saturday in 29.60 – has blinding speed and expect he sets the pace for this and gives a great shout.
TIPS: 6,3,7,8

Race 7

Betting has this as a race in two between SIMON TOLD HELEN (7) and HARD STYLE RICO (3). Both trialled here Saturday night with little separating them, STH running 29.88 and HSR 29.84. I'm with 4-time group winner Simon Told Helen, just think his early burn will see him cross and lead. Away from the top two HOORAY ZIPPER (8) is next best. Been in scintillating form and his run in the Gosford Cup was huge; runs into two sensational young pups here though which is another step up.
TIPS: 7,3,8,1

Race 8

ASTON WIZARD (6) finished runner-up to Simon Told Helen in the Silver Chief Final last start and he clearly brings the best form lines into this. Box six is not ideal but the vacant draw inside him is a huge aid. Local chaser EBBY INFRARED (7) has had nine starts at the rack for 5 wins and 4 placings while WALLBANGER (1) gets the benefit of box one up from Victoria. A case for the inside, he has gone a slick 29.43 at Sandown assembling a terrific record. Look for LOCHINVAR RYDER (8) to show good speed at his 520m debut from the wide draw.
TIPS: 6,1,7,8

Race 9

FIRE LEGEND (1) comes to Sydney in stunning form, the Victorian winning his past two at Sandown in 29.45 and 29.41. By all reports trialled fast at Wenty in readiness for this and the one draw is an added bonus. Plenty of intrigue surrounds ASTON SAPPORO (3), the other main chance in betting. Ran his race in patches last week when third, before that winning four on end in sizzling times. They are clearly the top two; next best SQUIGGLE KEEPING (7). Won the 8 of 19 but this is a big step up in opposition.
TIPS: 1,3,7,2

Race 10

Stack of early speed in this is likely to dictate the outcome. LOW FLYING CROW (2) and HERE COMES JOE (4) can both fly early, hearing the latter has run some very quick splits in trials at the track. REVELATION (1) only trialled 30.14 on Saturday night but is ideally drawn in one and his Victorian form is very good. Fellow Victorian ASTON PERONI (5) is right in betting and proven himself more than capable back home, winning 4 of his 10 starts. Expect the last to have a few twists and turns.
TIPS: 1,5,4,2
