French Martini Off To A Flyer In MDC Quest

PETER Lagogiane unleashed star bitch French Martini on the first round of lucrative Million Dollar Chase at Gosford on Tuesday night.

PETER Lagogiane unleashed star bitch French Martini on the first round of Million Dollar Chase heats at Gosford on Tuesday night but may plot an unfamiliar path towards the series ultimate if she continues in such form.

The daughter of Aston Dee Bee and Sheez My Chicki ran the quickest of the two MDC heats at Gosford over 515m when she clocked 29.27 as the $1.95 favourite.

She downed Analysing and Vencedor.

Class act, Yuko Girl (Zambora Brockie-Yuko) landed the other heat for Sam Sultana in 29.47, beating another Lagogiane hopeful in Ziggy Star with Lektra Lad in third.

“Million dollar man” Lagogiane, who prepared two of the first four winners of the MDC, said depending on what the result was in next week's Gosford final, he may map out an interstate campaign for French Martini in the run-up to the MDC final.

“Everything revolves around how she goes next week in the final at Gosford,” he said.

“She has drawn the five, with our other runner Ziggy Star is in the one. Yuko Girl has drawn the eight.

“If French Martini wins, I could very well send her interstate to either Albion Park or Victoria for a few runs.”

The entire plan is to try to keep French Martini away from “the Wentworth Park blues”.

“Some dogs can get the blues going around Wenty all the time and I don't want that to happen with her,” said Lagogiane.

“She was coming into the race on Tuesday night after a break of five weeks and that followed a couple of runs where she drew badly and had no luck at Wenty.

“The bitch is a great traveller which is why the possibility of a trip interstate depending on what happens in next week's final.”

Lagogiane is full of praise about French Martini, the winner of seven of her 13 starts and $75,000 with victory in the Group 3 Ladies Bracelet, a placing in the Group 3 New Sensation and finals berths in the Group 1 Peter Mosman Opal and Group 2 Flying Amy Classic.

“There are no flaws in her, except that she needs 10 or 20 metres of free air to get going to her top out of the lids,” he said.

“She's not like She's A Pearl or Wow She's Fast who are virtually at top speed a stride out of the boxes. But how many are?”

Lagogiane says he has plenty of young dogs in the kennels working their way to the races.

He is also enthused at the start to his stud career by Beast Unleashed who last week provided the winner of the Group 3 Warragul St Leger Mr Audacious.

“We've sold 157 straws for him,” said Peter of Beast Unleashed.
