Frog Stomp On Song For Road To The Egg Tilt

APTLY named Frog Stomp takes aim at a possible Golden Easter Egg tilt when he takes on a slick field in a 5th Grade final at WPK on Saturday night.

APTLY named Frog Stomp takes aim at a possible Golden Easter Egg series attempt for trainer Nev Broadbent when he takes on a slick field in a 5th Grade final (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The son of Zinzan Brooke and Asteroid Miss comes into the final off six starts and four wins.

His only outing at Wentworth Park was when winning at the track on February 25 in 30.06.

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT

“He's named after Silverchair's album Frogstomp (released in 1995),” said Nev.

“And his run to win that heat was pretty good.

“He got a check at the first turn and then hit a bit of a dip where the tractor comes on the track.

“And, then he was on the wrong foot at the bottom turn.

“But, he is very strong and that's what he showed last week.”

Frog Stomp has draw the four in Saturday night's final and comes up against class act Go Bears the Coonamble Cup winner, third in the G1 National Derby and the Wauchope Cup.

Go Bears has won 12 of 34 starts and earned $59,000.

“He's the one to beat,” said Nev Broadbent of Go Bears. “It was a really nice win last week.”

But he has a word of warning for his rivals.

“I think Springview Hawk has strong claims as well,” said Nev.

“But he and Go Bears will not want this dog sitting close to them down the back. He could get over the top of them.”

Nev, who played 400 games of soccer for Cessnock, got tempted into greyhound racing via John Munro.

“Johnny looked after my injuries when I was playing soccer,” he said. “Just like he did for so many greats like Andrew ‘Joey' Johns.

“He got me into dogs as well.”

Frog Stomp has been impressive in his four wins to date.

Those including 29.33 and 29.47 wins at The Gardens.

“And, he did a few things wrong in those runs as well,” said Nev who now trains out of a six-acre property at Elderslie near Singleton.

“Frog Stomp will easily get 600 metres as he gets older.

“No, I'm not confident about him on Saturday night because all the good judges say a dog needs four or five runs around Wenty.

“But, he's in there with good form and is a very promising young dog.”
