Future Stars Set for Zoom Top Tilt

A star-studded field of youngsters will be vying for the rich $10,000 first prize in Tuesday's Zoom Top Maiden Final (440m) at Goulburn after five enthralling heats were run and won last week.

A star-studded field of youngsters will be vying for the rich $10,000 first prize in Tuesday's Zoom Top Maiden Final (440m) at Goulburn after five enthralling heats were run and won last week.

With some of the best credentialed maidens NSW has to offer on show at the southern tablelands circuit, it was the Neil Staines-trained Jasper Beardly who set the time-standard for next Tuesday's highly anticipated finale, stopping the clock in the fifth and final heat in a cracking 24.86.

Debuting in a heat of the Taylor Family Maiden Classic at Grafton's July Carnival, the son of Fabregas and Midnight Maid couldn't have been more impressive in Tuesday's heat romp, scoring by a widening 11 ¾ lengths in a blistering 24.86.

The opening heat of the series went the way of the Jason Magri-trained Wicked Thunder, the son of Barcia Bale defying a betting drift to record an ultra-impressive 24.99 victory, defeating a gallant Cee Me Explode by three lengths.

The second run-off saw the Mark Wilcox juggernaut continue, debuting Winning Light for a 4 ¼ length 25.41 success.

From Wilcox's outstanding Cosmic Rumble x Winning Shiraz litter, the six from the litter responsible for 27 victories from just the 45 appearances, Winning Light had posted some blistering trial times heading into Tuesday's debut and is in next week's final up to her ears.

It wouldn't be a feature race final at Goulburn without Jodie and Andy Lord represented and this year's Zoom Top will be no different, qualifying impressive debut heat winner Double Tax, with Lord eyeing back-to-back wins in the maiden feature following last year's win by Rooster Bush.

Stopping the clock in 25.01 for a powerhouse 3 ¾ length victory, the son of My Bro Fabio and Amyjo is owned by Peter Spiteri, the same combination that raced Group 1 winning galloper Let It Develop, who won the 2015 Goulburn Cup in his swag of feature race successes.

Double Tax's dam Amyjo is a litter-sister to Let It Develop, with her litter to My Bro Fabio doing terrific things in the early stages of their careers, winning three races in the past week alone.

The remaining heat was annexed by the Alan Pringle-trained Tell Nobody in a slick 25.07, scoring by a massive 11 ¼ lengths to put his name up in lights as a major player for next week's final.

A son of Lonesome Cry and Enlightment, the flashy red fawn chaser made full use of box one in Tuesday's heat and will have his share of support heading into next week's rich decider.
