George Jets To Fourth Track Record

WHEN Gunnedah sprinter Come On George scored at Tamworth on Saturday over the 457 metres by a mammoth 19 ¼ lengths, there was every chance Black Warhorse's 25.72 nine year old track record was going to be in perilous danger.
And that was exactly the case, with the Jamie Bush owned and trained galloper stopping the clock in a sizzling 25.70, extending his career record to 10 wins from the 31 outings, claiming a fourth track record in the process.
"He's been a very good dog for us, that was his fourth track record on Saturday," said a modest Bush earlier this week, with Come On George now responsible for the 402m and 457m time-standard at Tamworth, along with equalling the 347m and 440m loam records at his home track Gunnedah.
"We got him about a year or so ago now off his owner Peter Slack as a giveaway – Peter thought he'd measure up around the country tracks and I think it's just been some age and maturity that's seen him improve like he has. He's really happy with how well the dog is going for us.
"There's 37 kilos of him so he takes a while to wind up, three of his records have been from box eight which he had Saturday. Before the Tamworth Cup Series in April he actually broke the 457m record in a trial running 25.69 so it wasn't a huge shock what he ran on Saturday when he won by as far as he did."
A 3 ½ year old son of Spring Gun and Gunna Hoot, the dam a sister to 15-race winner Johnny Fire who has sired a couple of very handy litters, Bush is targeting Come On George towards next month's Grafton Sprinters Cup at the July Carnival.
"He's gone 22.32 at Maitland and 22.77 at Newcastle and deserves a go at a race like that," said the 34-year old trainer who was full of praise for father Kim, who he says does the "hard yards" with the dogs behind the scenes.
"The worry is with the country points he may struggle to get a run so we're heading to Tamworth for a best 8 this Saturday and then to Maitland next Thursday – hopefully that'll be enough to get a start."
