Good Juan Sold For Hefty Six Figure Sum

GOOD Juan’s Richmond victory threatened to spark a flood of offers resulting in the son of Barcia Bale being sold for a hefty six-figure sum on Friday.

GOOD Juan's mesmerising Richmond victory last Saturday night threatened to spark a flood of offers for the powerhouse talent which resulted in the son of Barcia Bale being sold for a hefty six-figure sum on Friday.

"The phone rang pretty hot during the week," said former trainer George Borg.

"There were some silly offers, some reasonable offers, and then a couple of offers that in the end were too good to refuse."

Following a week of frenetic bidding, Good Juan, a son of Barcia Bale and Gate Juan, was purchased by clients of Harry Sarkis who will train the powerhouse youngster moving forward.

Sarkis is of course no stranger to identifying potential stars of the track, having prepared the likes of Black Aztec, Tenthill Doll, Kirsty's Charity, Dalalla, Restless Stan and No Way Gloria, just to name a few.

Winner at six of his 15 career starts, Good Juan's 30.77 Richmond victory last Saturday night proved the trigger to set off this week's significant interest, the two-year old galloper running home in an "unheard of" 14.58 for the 535 metres.

In terms of visually eye-catching wins, it will go down as one of better on record,  rattling off a huge finish to come from a forlorn position in the run.

"I've never seen anything like that run home – not in trials – not even in a post-to-post, which is 50 metres shorter," said Borg.

"I'm disappointed to lose the dog but as they say ‘a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush'.

“Eight of my family own him and I understand he would have had to earn a lot of money to match what he's been sold for. That's just the way it goes sometimes."

And while leaving with Borg's blessing, the Berkshire Park trainer was at pains to wish his new connections well.

"I really wish them luck," Borg added of the prodigious talent.

"Before he was sold I wanted Harry to be sure he knew all the ins and outs with the dog so there's full disclosure; he's happy and the owners are happy so everyone's on the same page."

With the Group 1 Association Cup fast approaching over the Golden Easter Egg carnival, one would assume the rich staying feature is a likely target for Good Juan and his new connections.
