Good Odds Harada Equals Goulburn Record

RACECALLER Gary Clark summed it up perfectly as Good Odds Harada crossed the line at Goulburn on Thursday afternoon: "He's back alright."

Having just his second run since a brief layoff where he undertook some stud duties, and racing at a track his former trainer Frank Hurst once declared doesn't suit him, Good Odds Harada lit up the loam, equalling the 440m track record, a mark which has stood at 24.34s for more than four years.

Good Odds Harada pinged out of box seven, charged to the lead and it was from there only about times and margins and how close he could go to the record of Let It Develop, set in December 2015.

Good Odds Harada had only returned to racing last weekend at Bulli after taking two months off. He won there that night too in 22.20s, the best of the night.

"It didn't surprised me," trainer Jason Magri said of Thursday's run. "I thought he would go close to the record. The dog has got it in him and he produced it today which was good.

"He has improved from that first run, but the first run was still good at Bulli. It was a windy night, so on a good night at Bulli he would have went low 22s. The dog is firing. He's feeling good at home, and he's going ahead in leaps and bounds.

"I think he's fresh at the moment. He hasn't had a lot of work, so he is sprinting well and the horseshoe track at the moment is good for him. He can get out in front and sprint, and he proved that today."

The victory took Good Odds Harada's record to 26 wins from 58 starts with another 24 placings, and now over $1.28 million in prizemoney.
