Goodnight Vicki Makes Her Middle Distance Mark

Goodnight Vicki heads into Monday’s Middle Distance Championship Final off a brilliant heat winning 600 metre debut at Launceston.

Goodnight Vicki heads into Monday's Colonial Hotel Middle Distance Championship Final (600m) as the one to beat following a brilliant heat winning 600 metre debut at Launceston.

Stepping out from box two, the daughter of Fernando Bale and Ainsley Bale had no trouble in finding the front early and from there it was a one act affair, bolting away in a slick 34.96.

Anndar Winx finished on strongly for second beaten 3 3/4 lengths with Hi Sky filling third.

Goodnight Vicki registered a seventh victory from 20 career outings with the win and trainer Blake Pursell was more than satisfied with the performance.

"I was really impressed with her effort," the Brighton based conditioner said.

"She looks to handle the distance no worries; her run home sectionals lately over 500 have been super strong.

"Drawing inside boxes is a big plus for her as she certainly loves to rail."

The Heawood-Milner Syndicate owned bitch is a full sister to Sandown Cup winner Bronski Beat with a future in the breeding barn no doubt on the cards.

Pursell has two runners heading into Monday's final with Pages Creek qualifying after finishing third in the second heat.

Overcoming a wide draw with interference, the Fernando Bale and Cheetah Zorro chaser powered home in the closing stages, finishing 8-3/4 lengths behind winner Simmo's My Bro.

"Pages Creek was super having come across from box eight, he definitely wants the inside, so coming up with the rails draw suits him well in the final. I couldn't be more pleased in both of their efforts," Blake said.
