Goodwin Youngster Blazes To Taree Maiden Triumph

THE mid North Coast's premier trainer, Nathan Goodwin, reckons he can put up with Blazin' Bad Zula's constant barking if she keeps winning like she does.

The royally bred daughter of Fernando Bale and China O'Brien got all the luck in a Taree Gold Maiden Final (314m) on Wednesday to score by two and a quarter lengths over Bedazzled Jewel and City Babe.

She had won her heat the previous week in impressive style as well.

“I got She's Shrewd from Greg Sprod and Tyrone Whittington a while ago and she won 10 races for our kennel,” said Nathan.

“They asked me to take six more and this bitch is one of them.

“She had been in WA with Steve Withers.

“I know exactly why Steve did not want her in his kennel.

“She never, and I mean NEVER, stops barking.”

The bitch arrived in Brisbane from Perth 10 weeks ago and Nathan had her delivered that night while he was racing at Albion Park.

“About six weeks ago she really hit her straps and was ready to race and showing plenty,” said Nathan.

“But, I spotted that this maiden was coming up at Taree and it was worth $8500 to the winner, so I went a bit easy on her to keep her for this race.”

Blazin' Bad Zula may have been a little lucky in the final and Nathan admits that.

“She had the rails and at Taree that is a huge bonus,” he said.

“She was angled behind the leaders coming to the turn and they collided. That's when she dashed to the front and she was really going away at the finish.”

Goodwin will head to Albion Park to trial the bitch with a 520m Thursday night Novice her target.

“She will not run 300 metres again, that's for sure,” he said.

The bitch is bred to get 700m with her mother being a Group performer over a distance and from the famed Esparza damline.
