Gosford Gold Beckons For French Martini

FRENCH Martini confirmed she was on target for the fast approaching Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup (515m) with a sparkling Bulli victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The Peter Lagogiane-trained daughter of Aston Dee Bee covered the 400 metre journey in a flying 22.02, the fastest ever victory by a female at the south coast circuit.

Only track record holder Pindari Express (21.93, 22.01) and Big Otis Banner (22.01) have gone quicker.

Winner of the Group 2 Black Top in October where she broke The Gardens track record in the heats, French Martini embarked on a Victorian campaign where not a lot went to script in both the Topgun and Melbourne Cup.

But following a short let-up the 12-time winner confirmed she was back to her brilliant best with Tuesday's 8 ¾ length trouncing.

"The little break has done her the world of good," Lagogiane said.

French Martini has returned to NSW victorious, taking out Race 6 over the 400m at Bulli with ease in 22.02.

"I think by the end of that interstate campaign all the racing and travelling just caught up with her. She was telling me she needed a break to reset so to see her produce a run like that shows it's done the job.

“She trialled well last week and repeated that in a field today so it's all systems go to Gosford now.”

French Martini will be seen next in the heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner Gosford Gold Cup on December 27.
