Got The Lot Eyes Six-Straight For Alford

HUGELY exciting sprinter Got The Lot - on a five race winning streak currently - is giving 81-year-old trainer Brian Alford the ride of his lifetime.

EXCITING sprinter Got The Lot is giving 81-year-old trainer Brian Alford the ride of his lifetime.

Alford purchased the son of El Grand Senor and Spear Cash from prominent New South Wales trainer Jodie Lord in August 2022 and made an immediate impression on his new owner, winning three of his first four starts.

But it's his current five race wining streak that has Alford dreaming big.

"He's flying, doing everything right," said Alford.

"He's not two and a half years old yet so I think he's just coming of age. It'll be interesting to see what he does on Tuesday night."

FIELDS AND FORM WARRAGUL TUESDAY NIGHT

Alford is a 60 year veteran of the sport and has had a number of fast dogs including 2004 Sapphire Crown finalist Darlin' Ditmar.

However he believes Got The Lot is the fastest he's had.

"I started in 1964," he said.

"I got out of it when the kids were young because there was no money in it back then, then I got back into it around 1984.

"I ran a machinery dealership for 25 or 26 years and I still had dogs then, only two or three to keep my eye in, and then once I retired at 64 I got into it full time.

"This is the quickest dog I've had in terms of outstanding brilliance. He's just a bull, just lovely to look at when he's galloping, he has a beautiful stride on him and he gives you 110% every time you put him around. And if they chase hard then they'll win more races than they'll lose."

All five wins in Got The Lot's current winning streak have been in the fastest of the night despite a run of awkward draws.

On Tuesday night he will step up to 460m for just the second time in his career (he ran seventh in his only other attempt after finding trouble at the turn), but Alford doesn't believe the extra distance will be a concern.

In fact, Alford is confident of a strong showing that will punch his ticket to town.

"Empty box underneath, I think he leads. I don't like saying I'm confident but I am,” he said.

"I put him over the 450m at Traralgon just to give him a look at a bit of ground and he's gone 24.87 and won by six or seven lengths and that was a real good field, treated them like they weren't in the same class as him.

"If he steps … the last 20m may be the problem but coming around the corner I expect him to be five or six in front, I really do. The worst he's ever gone was 22.60 something and that was in the heavy, he normally runs around the 22.35 and there's nothing in that that can go that quick that early.

"The way he's been running on, I'd say he should run the 460m out strong and the 460m at Warragul is the equivalent of a 515m at Sandown I reckon anyway.

"If he can win well (on Tuesday) he's going to the city and we won't muck around with him any more in the bush. We'll go straight to the city and have a crack and see how he goes from there. "

Got The Lot will jump from box 6 in race 7 at Warragul tonight.
