‘What A Ride': Reigning Bold Trease Champ Retired

JACK Strutt and his dad Paul gave it a good old try, but in the end star group 1 winning stayer Stagger Out Lee was having none of it.

JACK Strutt and his dad Paul gave it a good try, but in the end Stagger Out Lee was having none of it.

Stagger Out Lee (My Bro Fabio-Parrydise Star) won last year's Group 1 Bold Trease, the rich glamour staying race the final of which this year will be run at Sandown Park on Saturday night.

In March this year at Wentworth Park, Stagger Out Lee tore a back muscle and for the Strutt family from out at Springvale (Wagga), it looked as though her racing career was over.

“We gave her the time off but then decided to put her back into training when the muscle was better,” said Jack.

“Her times in trials were not up to her usual standard but we had planned to give the Bold Trease another try this year.”

But, some great plans can come undone and that is what happened to Stagger Out Lee.

“She hurt a wrist and that was the end of the ride,” said Jack.

It signalled the end of her career of 63 starts for 13 wins, 26 placings and $307,000 in prize money.

The Bold Trease added to her win in the G1 Zoom Top and third in the G1 Super Stayers. She was also a finalist in the G1 WA Galaxy, G2 Summer Distance Plate and G3 Albion Park Gold Cup.

Jack and his dad have not even contemplated a future mating for their great bitch … yet.

“We will do some homework on that now,” said Jack.

“We also have some sisters to her we are going to breed with as well.

“She's given us a great ride and plenty of memories.”
