Greenough's Cranbourne Magic Show

IT'S A Blaze has broken Pop The Cork's four year old track record with a stunning victory in Saturday night's GRV Vic Bred Maiden Final (520m) at Cranbourne.

And the mesmerising track record run wasn't the only highlight on the card for trainer Kel Greenough after the hugely talented Houdini Boy captured the Listed Winter Cup Final (520m) with another electrifying come from behind win.

But, It's A Blaze first.

10 days ago the son of Fernando Bale and It's A Fling sent the greyhound world into a tailspin when winning on debut in a scintillating 29.75.

The 16 ½ half length romp was made even more fascinating by the fact the 26-month old blue-blood sported blinkers – a throw at the stumps by Greenough that is so far paying serious dividends.

And it was more of the same in Saturday night's $7500 to-the-winner final, making light work of box six to surge away for a huge win in a remarkable 29.54, shaving a length off Pop The Cork's 29.60 track record.

Blessed with unbridled ability, the rising talent has demonstrated that he could be absolutely anything, provided of course he stays on the straight and narrow under the watchful eye of Greenough.

And while It's A Blaze's thumping record win was a highlight for Greenough, so too was Houdini Boy's powerhouse Winter Cup victory.

Talking about the prospect of being absolutely anything, throw this bloke into the mix too.

Beginning poorly in the Winter Cup finale – as has become customary with the son of Zambora Brockie – Houdini Boy found himself within striking distance up the back straight, poised to unleash his trademark finishing burst.

And that he did, quite comfortably in fact, rounding up leader Percy's Magic to power away for a 2 ½ length win in 29.78 and scoop the $20,000 first prize.

Building quite a cult following given his visual stimulating racing style, Houdini Boy is a set of box manners away from being a bona fide star of the track … if he isn't anyway!
