Group 1 Runner-Up On Townsville Cup Trail

GROUP 1 performer Just A Sort, on the comeback trail after injury, is going "as good as ever" in preparation for his Albion Park assignment Thursday.

GROUP 1 performer, Just A Sort, on the comeback trail after a toe injury that put him on the sidelines for seven months, is going “as good as ever” in preparation for a 520m 4th Grade at Albion Park on Thursday night.

The son of Aston Dee Bee and She's A Sort has drawn box four against a quality field for trainer Tony Brett and his syndicate of owners.

“He did a toe, and he did it pretty badly, in a heat of the Ipswich Cup in November last year,” said Tony.

“We got it right after 10 weeks but after two trials he did it again.

“My vet advice was to get the toe taken off, but I am one who never wants to go down that path.

“We spelled him again and let it heal and this time in he has stood up fine.”

Just A Sort has returned to the track with three straight wins at Albion Park over 395m including a scorching 22.41.

“He is going as good as ever,” said Brett.

“But, he will be very short of a 520 metre run on Thursday night.

“I want to get a 520 into him, and maybe one more before he heads north for the Townsville Cup series.”

Brett and wife Fleur are planning a European holiday and will be away when the Townsville Cup will be run.

“I will send Just A Sort and Panama Canal to my mate Tony Parker for the Townsville Cup,” he said.

“Tony has been a mate for ages and he knows how we do things so the two dogs will be in the best of hands.

“I like Just A Sort for a Townsville Cup dog because he likes a corner start.”

Both dogs will also target the Ipswich Cup later in the year.

Brett applauded the syndicate of owners for being patient.

“They have really embraced greyhound racing and their joy at winning the Derby and then running second in a Group 1 Brisbane Cup had to be seen,” said Tony.

Just A Sort has been an outstanding introduction for them starting 51 times for 17 wins and 15 placings earning $221,000.

Just A Sort meets Magistrate coming off a G1 Brisbane Cup finals berth and a last-start third to Brimstone in the Ipswich Young Guns.

Huge early speed is drawn around the dog with John “JMac” Mccarthy's Balmy Nights, Ablett Hayze for Sandra Hunt, and Jedda Cutlack's speedster Ally Gal all possessed with great early pace.
