Little Turbo Delivers Hagicostas His First Winner

LITTLE Turbo delivered 26 year old Queenslander Andrew Hagicostas his first winner as a trainer at the Albion Park program on Sunday night.

ANDREW Hagicostas, backed by a lifetime of greyhound involvement, landed his first winner as a trainer when Little Turbo won a 331m Maiden at Albion Park on Sunday night.

And, he then went within a length of landing a winning double when Onyx Duck was beaten into second in the following race, another 331m Maiden.

Little Turbo and Onyx Duck are Lochinvar Marlow-Garrrangay Duk littermates.

Andrew, 26, is having his first venture into greyhound training, but his parents George and Angela Hagicostas have been part of the industry in Queensland since the start of night racing at the Gabba back in 1972.

“Yes, I've grown up around dogs all my life,” said Andrew.

“Dad couldn't be at Albion Park on Sunday, but mum was with me and it was very exciting. Dad was thrilled though.”

George trained Garrangay Duk during her race career and when she whelped her Lochinvar Marlow litter, he was offered a pup.

Andrew jumped at the chance and grabbed a second as well. They now race as Little Turbo and Onyx Duck.

“Little Turbo has needed plenty of experience to get around that first turn near the 600 metre boxes,” said Andrew.

“But, the wide draw yesterday helped her. It suits her to be drawn out there.”

The littermates now go into next Sunday's Maiden final.
