Here's Tears Takes Out Sydney Cup In Style

ROBERT Britton has secured another group race victory with Here’s Tears a dominant winner of the Sydney Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

MASTER trainer of stayers Robert Britton has secured another group race victory with Here's Tears a dominant winner of the Sydney Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

Going into the race as the fastest qualifier following a fast 42.16 heat win last Friday, Here's Tears went into the $100,000 to-the-winner decider as a slight second favourite behind Sunset Bourbski from his box one draw.

But after driving through early from the prized draw and assuming the lead, the race always looked in the keeping of the son of Fernando Baler and Tears Siam.

"We needed him to come out and punch through and lead and that's what he did," said caretaker trainer Chris Perry.

"It's good when a plan comes off. He's a great dog – what else can I say."

Here's Tears' Sydney Cup triumph continued owner-breeder Michael Ivers' profound influence over staying features in this country.

Back in 1993 his champion stayer Trojan Tears won the Sydney Cup and 27 years on that very is still producing winners at the highest level, including Here's Tears and his older half-brother Tornado Tears.

Finishing second in Friday night's Sydney Cup was a fast finishing Sunset Bourbski 3 ¼ lengths astern of the winner.

Third at big odds was Show Me Confetti another 2 ¾ lengths away.

Robert Britton will now turn his attention to the fast approaching Group 1 Bold Trease at Sandown Park with Here's Tears where he already boasts the track record amid his last of achievements.
