History At The Q With Meeting Double-Header

A slice of history will be created on Thursday with The Q staging back-to-back meetings at Q1 Lakeside and Q2 Parklands.

THURSDAY sees the state-of-the-art The Q stretch between two race meetings, 12 at Q1 Lakeside, before nine at Q2 Parklands.

And a handful of trainers, including Kiwis Riley and Steve Evans, have runners engaged in both meetings.

The Q1 meeting starts at 12.13pm with the last of 12 races at 3.52pm.

The Q2 first race starts at 6.39pm before finishing at 9.34pm.

Kennelling for the Q2 meeting opens at 5pm.

FIELDS AND FORM: Q1 LAKESIDE ON THURSDAY

"We are 50 minutes from Churchable to The Q," said Riley Evans. "We have early runners at Q1 and will have time to get home and bring back our runners for the Q2 meeting.

"But, we are lucky, we have plenty of hands on deck to help with the transition of dogs back and forth for the two meetings and in the future when this occurs."

Leading trainer Tom Tzouvelis, fresh off winning The 715 with Autumn Storm, has seven engaged at the Q2 meeting on Thursday but none at Q1.

Racing will be conducted on both Q1 and Q2 tracks on Thursday

"This will not be a rare occurrence at The Q," he said. "The worry could be for trainers based towards the Gold Coast, Beaudesert and in between."

Evans' Goldstar Racing team have started winning.

"We are pretty happy with the way the dogs are competing against the dogs here," Evans said.

"Just lately, we haven't had a lot of luck, but that is racing.

"Prizemoney is so much more win dominated in Australia. The split of prizemoney in New Zealand is a lot better, but prizemoney here is much more of course."

He said some of the Goldstar team are having starting box woes.

FIELDS AND FORM: Q2 PARKLANDS ON THURSDAY

"They are missing the start," he said. "The boxes open later in Australia and our dogs are not used to the slats on the floor of the boxes.

"They will get used to it though."

Tzouvelis is keen to see racing at Q2 Parklands get underway.

"I think we will need fast beginners or very good railers," he said of Q2.

"The distances will be softer runs than at Albion Park. I believe Albion Park is the best racetrack in the country but just needed The Q racing surface."

He pointed out Q1 nominations were running at 200 plus for most meetings.
