Hit For Six! Rawlings' Massive Winning Haul

PREMIER South Australian trainer Ben Rawlings put on an absolute clinic at Angle Park on Thursday night leading home six winners on the 10 event card.

And with Zipping Galon and It's A Riot scooping the two features on the program, the Lewiston trainer was quick to rate the massive haul of winners right up there with his career highlights.

"I've had five winners a few times on lesser programs but to win six including two features on one night is a bit surreal actually," Rawlings said.

Rawlings, who tasted Group 1 glory with Bogie Bekim in the Galaxy at Cannington in 2017, has been riding the crest of a winning wave recently and looked poised for a strong showing at Angle Park on Thursday night.

"It makes it a bit easier to get up in the morning after a night like that," Rawlings beamed.

"Nothing tops winning a group race because that's what you strive for but to win six on your home track with some very nice dogs is right up there."

Adding extra satisfaction to Rawlings' red letter night was the success coming the way of WA-based Gavin and Nat Crook, owners of SA Distance Championship (731m) winner Zipping Galon and Anniversary Cup (515m) victor It's A Riot.

"Gavin and Nat have been with me for about eight months now so to win the two features for them is a great thrill," Rawlings said.

"I changed some things up with old Zipping Galon this week hoping he'd begin better and race handier because his last few starts have been a bit out of character. When I saw he was out the back early I didn't give up but I was worried. Then I saw him steam into it up the back … he's a great old dog.

"With It's A Riot his chances came down to the box draw, he needs inside.

"When he drew three I was happy enough, providing he crossed Two Times Twice which he did. They went up $4.40 so we got a bit of that!

"I couldn't have been prouder of Two Times Twice's run either. He's got bad wrists so we're always working on him; he's a mighty dog. You can race him over 500 and he'll run you 29.60 and over 600 they can't get near him over here.

"He just loves to race, you should see his attitude on race day. He turns it on."

Rawlings' spectacular night kicked off with new kennel acquisition Couture dropping from the clouds to win the opening race in a visually stunning performance.

And after claiming wins with Gladys Lillian, Zipping Galon, It's A Riot and Vontae Mack, it was left to Born Lovely in the last to secure Rawlings an unprecedented six winners.

"It's funny, she was the one I was most confident about on the night," Rawlings said.

"But after we'd got five I thought we might be up against it. When she got into second on the fence I knew she'd be hard to beat though.

"It was a great night. I had a few whiskeys to celebrate when I got home. It's all still pretty surreal."
