Hobart Debutants On Breeders Classic Path

DEBUTANTS Roman Remiss and Siberia head betting for the first at Hobart tonight, the pair on track for next week’s Breeders Classic at Devonport.

WELL-bred debutants Roman Remiss and Siberia head the market for the first event at Hobart tonight with the pair on track for a crack at next week's Breeders Classic heats at Devonport.

Prepared by training combination Ted Medhurst and Debbie Cannan, $3.60 can be sought for each of the two leading chances in tonight's 461 metre juvenile event to commence the program of racing.

"With the circumstances of the two and where they are at, honestly it's hard for me to say either way," Medhurst declared.

"In time I expect the blue dog (Siberia) to turn out the better of the two but he's very inexperienced going into tonight, the brindle dog (Roman Remiss) has had a lot more education, he's further along and should race well."

The Debbie Cannan-trained Siberia is a fashionably bred son of Barcia Bale and Emerald Lee, the other three from the litter to hit the track all boasting wins to commence their promising careers.

"Preparation wise Siberia is a bit behind the rest of the litter, he cut his foot which put him a month or so back," Medhurst said.

"Having said that he's very talented and I'm optimistic about his future. Tonight is a bit of an ask with the lack of education he's had but he's going to make a really nice dog in time.

"Roman Remiss could just jump to the front and lead all the way in the wet conditions tonight. He's more forward and is a neat little dog."

While the two first starters head betting for tonight's opening event, those in the market with exposed form include Cosmic Pixie (box 1) and Our Macca Boy (box 8).

Cosmic Pixie comes into the race off a last start 25.94 Devonport win while Our Macca Boy, placed at three of his eight Hobart appearances, has been in the money at two of his three most recent starts.

On what's a relatively light night for Medhurst at his home track Hobart, the Hall Of Fame trainer has just one other runner on the program, the talented Freya The Slayer lining up in race seven.

A last stride winner last week over 461 metres in 26.34, the sister to Raging Ralston and Stanley Gordon is the $2.60 favourite from her box six draw.

"We're trying to get some miles into her legs to step her up to the middle distance and possibly further," Medhurst explained.

"It's a bit frustrating. She's got loads of ability, but her future is over further. I nominated her for a middle distance race at Devonport next Tuesday but there isn't one.

"I was talking to (owner) Roger and we might look to get her to Melbourne for some 600s at Sandown and The Meadows with the prize money the way it is."

Tonight's 3/4th grade seventh event is one of the races of the program with seven of the eight runners quoted under double figure odds.
