Houdini Boy Won't Chase Brisbane Gold

SALE Cup winner Houdini Boy will be a notable omission from the Group 1 Gold Cup (710m) which gets underway at Albion Park later this month.

HOUDINI Boy will be a notable omission from the Group 1 Gold Cup (710m) which gets underway at Albion Park later this month.

And it's reasonable to say that's a good thing for his opposition given the way he's going.

At Sandown Park on Sunday afternoon the last start Group 1 Sale Cup winner broke the 595 metre track record in a trial, stopping the clock in a remarkable 33.49.

The time well inside Dyna Double One's four-year old 33.63 track record.

"He won't be going to Sydney or Brisbane," said trainer Kel Greenough.

"We'll concentrate on the group 1 invitations at The Meadows in February and then the Group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers.”

Winner at 13 of his 24 race starts, Houdini Boy, a son of Zambora Brockie, continues to wow racegoers with his exhilarating finishing bursts.

And on the strength of Sunday's mesmerising trial performance, it appears the crowd pleasing chaser, due to turn three in March, is only getting better.

Sunday's Sandown program saw the Kayla Cottrell-trained Fernando Cazza continue on her merry winning way, scoring over the 595 metres in a slashing 33.88.

Winner at four of her past five in scintillating times, the daughter of Fernando Bale appears on track for a potential berth in the Group 1 Rookie Rebel (600m) at The Meadows on February 13 if her rich vein of form continues.
