CURLEWIS is a hand slip from Gunnedah and local trainer Allan Syphers is well aware Sunday's heats of the Chief Havoc Cup (527m) are perfect for his exciting youngster Jet Keen.

Allan bred, owns and trains Jet Keen (Aussie Infrared-Lizzy Keen) and he goes into the opening Cup heat on Sunday coming off five wins from his past six starts at Gunnedah including a flying last start 30.27 success over Sunday's distance.

He has drawn box five.

FIELDS AND FORM GUNNEDAH SUNDAY

“He's only a young dog, having just turned two, and I'm bringing him along very slowly and carefully,” said Allan.

“But he is very exciting. In fact, the sky is the limit for him.”

Jet Keen has raced 14 times for eight wins and the Chief Havoc Cup comes up just at the right time for him.

“He's going great,” said Allan. “He slipped post to post at Gunnedah in 26.50 and no dog has ever run that before.

“It's his home track and he is one of the best dogs I've had.”

Syphers says Jet Keen will not be worried by the five box in Sunday's heat but the danger is Group 1 winner Embrace drawn immediately on his inside.

“She likes to scout off the track,” said Allan.

“I'm hoping Jet Keen can begin and cross her before she starts to drift wide.

“My bloke is very capable of winning the heat.

“He has a huge future.”

Allan has 10 in work most of them from the Aussie Infrared-Lizzy Keen litter.

“I'm never one to rush my young dogs and that's what I'm doing with this litter,” he said.

He raced the dam Lizzy Keen (Barcia Bale-Little Grey) the winner of 14 races and a half sister to Group stars True Detective and El Magnifico.

The three Chief Havoc Cup heats have drawn together some classy gallopers from around the state with a number of Group class performers.
