FOLLOWING an overwhelming response from owners and trainers, the Richmond Race Club will on Sunday conduct an 11-race card of Finish on Lure racing.

A stunning total of 180 nominations were received for the August 25 meeting when nominations closed on Wednesday morning, and as a result 11 races were drawn.

The opening event is set down for 5.49pm, with the last at 9.36pm.

It was only eight days ago that GRNSW announced a race meeting was to be scheduled at Richmond and conducted under the auspices of Finish on Lure racing. The decision to stage the meeting was a result of the measure to support from many participants and their greyhounds who had advocated this type of racing for some time.

During a six-week period leading upto the announcement of the meeting, complimentary trials were conducted at the Richmond Club after race meetings on Wednesdays and Fridays and the feedback from all participants involved has been extremely positive. This has clearly translated into the support and popularity of the race meeting.

"This is a truly fantastic result," GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov said upon hearing the numbers, and support for the meeting.

"It would be remiss of me not to make special mention of our General Manager of Racing Operations Wayne Billett and his Operations team, who have done some tremendous work in driving this project, which will now culminate in an entire race meeting – 11 events – of Finish on Lure racing.

"I must also praise the work of the Richmond Race Club and their staff for all their efforts, congratulate them, and wish them the best for what I'm certain will be a tremendously successful meeting on Sunday."

GRNSW and GWIC have been working closely together with the Richmond Race Club and industry participants to ensure that all operations of the meeting for Finish on Lure racing, have been covered and considered.

GRNSW and GWIC plan to conduct further race meetings and also extend the Finish on Lure trials at other racing venues in coming weeks, and following the overwhelming response to the Richmond meeting, there are further announcements on these expected in coming weeks.
