Ideal Timing For Mystic Riot's Debut Winner

THE timing was not lost on Col Bermingham when Shadow Riot made a sensational winning debut at Ballarat on Wednesday night.

THE timing was not lost on Col Bermingham when Shadow Riot made a sensational winning debut at Ballarat on Wednesday night.

Shadow Riot is by Superior Panama, but his mother is inaugural Million Dollar Chase winner, 2018 victor Mystic Riot and from the Barcia Bale-Ready To Riot bitch's first litter.

Shadow Riot scored by nine lengths in 21.82 as the $1.50 favourite.

“Yes, it is very appropriate that he should be the first of Mystic Riot's progeny to race and win just a week out from the running of the Million Dollar Chase,” said Col.

“He went super.

“He's taken a little while to get there and it has been with the help of Anthony Azzopardi that he has gone so well.”

Bermingham reported the dog was playing up in the boxes which was cured by breaker Grant Fullerton.

“Anthony has been tremendous and we have decided to send Shadow Riot to him now,” said Col.

“We have got a lot of pups coming through and need the time.

“Shadow Riot is a nice young dog but he's got a long way to go.

“But, he couldn't have started off better than that.”

Among those pups coming through is the next litter from Mystic Riot, by Fernando Bale.

Col kept four dogs and two bitches from the litter and sold two dogs and two bitches, two to a RSN syndicate and two to a Queensland client of Azzopardi's kennel.

“Our six will go to be educated in a week,” said Col.

Mystic Riot has just been mated to US stud dog Need My Moneynow.

As well as winning the MDC, Mystic Riot was second in a State Of Origin and a finalist in the G1 Brisbane Cup, G2 Richmond Oaks, G2 Black Top and G3 The Ambrosoli for trainer Peter Lagogiance.

She is also a half sister to G1 stars Whiskey Riot and Fernando's Riot. The former has started his stud career off with a rush.
