Indiana Wind The Best Of McGrath's Futurity Trio

LOGAN Village trainer Darryl McGrath will head to Capalaba for the final of the Futurity with more than a strong hand in the race.

LOGAN Village trainer Darryl McGrath will head to Capalaba next Sunday for the final of the Futurity (366m) with more than a strong hand in the race.

Darryl will have Indiana Wind, Tallahasse Miss and Ripper Roo in the final and second reserve Philly Special.

He takes on the might of the Tom Tzouvelis kennel who has Saanvi, Fancy Gift, Scarlatti and Pursuer in the race. Myra Griffiths' finalist Whispers is the only runner not from either of those two kennels.

McGrath is glowing in his praise of Indiana Wind which ran 19.95 to win her heat on Sunday.

The 31.6kg bitch has raced only at Capalaba winning eight and being placed in five of her 19 starts for $22,000 in prize money.

“She's the best of them,” said Darryl of Indiana Wind.

“The red in the final will be good for her even though she had the seven in the heat.

“She seems to begin better off an inside box but will want to drift to the centre.

“Her run to win the heat was great because she kept getting impeded in the early stages.”

McGrath raced the dam, No Clyde Needed, the winner of 20 and placed 42 times in a marathon 113 race starts.

“She has a three-week old litter by Sennachie, six dogs and four bitches,” said Darryl.

He bred No Clyde Needed from his former slick sprinting bitch Miss Elly Mac (12 wins).

Indiana Wind will head to the circle after Sunday's Futurity final.

“Her times on the circle have been great,” said Darryl.

He rates Tzouvelis' Saanvi (Superior Panama-Sherbini) the hardest to beat after she ran 19.75 to win her heat over kennelmate Fancy Gift.

I'm Peakin racing to an impressive Derby victory

“Whatever Tommy or Jedda (Cutlack) put down on the track these days is hard to beat,” said Darryl. “They can't put a foot wrong.”

Veteran trainer, Bob Giltinan, provided the fastest of the Derby heat winners with Wildash Hornet (Fernando Bale-Wildash Nitro) winning his heat in 19.79.

Cutlack produced I'm Peakin (Aston Kimetto-Jinjing) to win the other Derby heat in 19.98.
