Jan Gives Elite Alex The Egg Tick Of Approval

NO better judge of greyhound racing than Jan Wheeler believes her trainer Mark Delbridge can win the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

But Jan does not own Mark's Egg finalist, Elite Alex, which comes out of the eight box in the time-honoured 520 metre final.

That honour is with Jason Timperley who races the son of Fernando Bale and Suffragette the winner of 12 from 25 and $82,000.

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT

In a sense of timing, his dam Suffragette won the 2017 Launching Pad, which is of course staged this week as well.

“Jan reckons we can win it,” said Mark Delbridge.

“He should be in front from the eight box or at least up sharing the lead at the first turn.

“He only needs some luck around that first corner.”

Delbridge heads to Wentworth Park with G1 Melbourne Cup winner Yachi Bale and the ever consistent Kaheem Bale, finalists in the G3 The Ambrosoli (520m).

He gives both a great chance and says Kaheem Bale was unlucky not to have made the Egg final.

“He's four years old,” said Mark. “And he was stiff not to be in the Egg because he checked himself going for a run underneath another dog at a vital stage.”

Of Melbourne Cup winner Yachi Bale, Mark rates him highly as well, despite meeting a better than handy field of classy local sprinters.

“I'm not so sure he will get a strong 600 metres even though he was third in the Sale Cup,” said Mark.

“The litter just gets 600 metres and I doubt Yachi Bale will run 700.”

Delbridge is high in praise of Elite Alex.

“He is just two and a bit and already been in the final of the Great Chase and the Launceston Cup,” he said.

“He's just starting his race career.”
