Jay Is Jay Eyes Phoenix Berth In Queensland Flame

SUPERSTAR Jay Is Jay was flown straight back to Brisbane at the weekend to take on the Queensland Flame on Thursday night.

SUPERSTAR Jay Is Jay was flown straight back to Brisbane at the weekend to take on Thursday night's Group 3 Queensland Flame (520m) in a bid to make the $1.65 million The Phoenix next month.

That was just after the son of Sennachie and Kealoah had no luck in his heat of last Saturday night's G1 Melbourne Cup when badly checked at the first turn before finishing seventh to Aussie Rocks.

FIELDS AND FORM ALBION PARK THURSDAY NIGHT

He had been a superb second to Transponder in the G1 Topgun at The Meadows at his previous start, his first outing since winning the Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park on October 13.

Michael Zammit, whose wife Selena trains the dog, put both Jay Is Jay and kennelmate Icy Eyes on the plane on Sunday.

Icy Eyes, brilliant in staying wins at The Meadows and Sandown during the trip south, also had no luck in her heat of the G1 Bold Trease.

She will run in a 710m FFA at Albion Park on Thursday night.

Jay Is Jay has not started at Albion Park since winning there on August 17.

“I put the two dogs on the plane in Melbourne and then started driving home,” said Mick Zammit today.

He said both dogs seemed to pull up well after their Sandown runs.

“I thought Jay Is Jay was going to get into the perfect position going around the first turn to be second into the back straight.

“But, when Jason's dog fell back through the field, we ended up right behind him and that was the end of his chances.”

Zammit had only a brief look at the field for the G3 Queensland Flame and knows Jay Is Jay is drawn well but faces a tough task against in-form opposition.

“Bear's Bullet off the red will be very hard to beat,” he said.

“She's in fabulous form.”

Travis Elson's star comes off her win in the G1 Ipswich Gold Cup on November 2 at her latest start.
