Jay Is Jay Shock Gold Bullion Scratching

WARM favourite Jay Is Jay has been sensationally scratched from Thursday night's Group 1 Gold Bullion Final (520m) at Albion Park.

A devastated Michael Zammit, who trains Jay Is Jay in partnership with wife Selena, revealed late on Wednesday the champion Queensland sprinter would miss the $250,000 to-the-winner feature after sustaining a toe injury.

Runner-up in last year's Gold Bullion, Jay Is Jay had drawn box eight and was $2.50 favourite to record his first Group 1 victory at his home track, where he holds the 520m record.

With the race now turned on its head, it's small consolation to the Zammits they are still left with three finalists; Cluster (box 3), All Natural (box 4) and Another Chance (box 7).

The injury is expected to keep Jay Is Jay out of the fast approaching Australian Cup carnival but connections are hopeful of having the superstar sprinter ready for a crack at the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park, the scene of his Million Dollar Chase triumph.
