Jemma Reaching For The ‘Skye' After Young Guns

KURWONGBAH trainer Jemma Daley will set litter sisters Hara's Skye and Hara's River on an ambitious program of feature races in the coming months.

KURWONGBAH trainer Jemma Daley will set litter sisters Hara's Skye and Hara's River on an ambitious program of feature races in the coming months.

Jemma said this after the daughters of Fernando Bale-Hara's Honey ran the quinella in the Listed Young Guns final (520m) at Ipswich on Saturday night.

Hara's Skye used her early pace to lead throughout to beat her sister to two and a quarter lengths in a flying 30.27.

Jemma provided the quinella and rival trainer Tony Apap produced litter brothers Fearghal Monelli and Declan Monelli to finished third and fourth.

“Very excited,” said Jemma. “It's my first feature race win as a trainer. I've had runners in a few finals before but never won one.”

But Jemma is certain she wants the bitches not to embark on similar preparations in coming months with the exception of the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars at Albion Park.

“I have a plan to target the South Australian Oaks with Hara's River,” said Jemma.

“She looks as though she is getting stronger and I have no doubt she will run 600 metres, probably sooner rather than later.

“But, Hara's Skye with her great early pace is on target for races like the Rising Stars and Futurity at Albion Park as well, and a trip to the Townsville Cup is not out of the question.

“She has always been the one to show early pace of the pair, but until her last couple of starts, he has been inconsistent with her jumping.

“I'm certain with maturity now she will only get better out of the boxes.”

Jemma's pride over the Young Guns win is highlighted in the fact the quinella pair are among the very first pups she reared.

“I have got to thank Tony (breeder, owner Tony Glover) for giving me the opportunity to not only initially rear them, but having the faith in me to train them and all the others he has in the kennel,” she said.

“They are still learning and will only get better.”
