Josh's Debut Winner A Board Tradition

21 year old Joshua Board, backed by a lifetime of family history, landed his first winner with his first starter with Spring Meteor at Goulburn on Friday.

TWENTY-one year old Joshua Board, backed by a lifetime of greyhound racing family history, landed his first winner from his first starter when Spring Meteor won  350m Maiden at Goulburn on Friday.

And no one cheered louder than his grandparents Greg and Helen way over at Murray Bridge in South Australia.

Spring Meteor (Fernando Bale-Spring Catch) came from well back to score by a neck.

“Unfortunately, Joshua could not get the day off work to be there for the race,” said Greg. “His father Scott and his nephew Jay went to the track.

“But he'll be over the moon,” said Greg.

Firsts come quick in the family.

Jay, son of Greg and Helen's daughter Katie, landed his first winner on debut as a trainer at Bathurst a few months ago.

“Josh bred the litter, whelped them, reared them and has done all the work,” said Greg.

“We gave him the bitch, a daughter of KC And All and Spring Leaf, to breed with.

“She's due to have a litter by Barcia Bale.”

Josh has been a young league star making a touring Australian junior side and having a stint at the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs before injury.

“He was playing first division touch footy when he was 12 and in the season just gone he played in the local competition hit by Covid,” said Greg.

“That pup (Spring Meteor) is a very smart pup. He missed the start today.”

Josh is an apprentice carpenter but Greg says his nephew Jay “lives and breathes greyhound racing”.
