Jungle Deuce Sidelined With Hock Fracture

SUPERSTAR Jungle Deuce has a hairline fracture of a hock which will force him off the track, but broodbitch owners will get the chance to access semen for him.

The son of Barcia Bale-Serena Fly High, winner of 25 races and $655,000 in stakes, only last week trialled 34.31 to break the Dubbo middle distance track record.

“But Jack (Smith, his trainer) noticed him a bit funny in his action yesterday so took him to the vet for an x-ray today,” said part-owner Clay Mawson.

“It showed a hairline fracture of the hock.

“The vet advice was to take no chances with him. It does not appear serious and should not keep him off the track for too long.”

But in the meantime, the dog's connections have taken the opportunity to draw semen from the multiple Group 1 winner and track record breaker.

“We've got about a dozen so far and these will be available at a fee of $2000,” said Clay.

“I believe a few have already been sold.”

Jack Smith confirmed that 10 straws have been sold “and paid for” already.

Jungle Deuce is the Dubbo track record holder at 28.93 and winner of the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder and Gold Bullion, the Group 2 Flying Amy Classic, Golden Sands, Group 3 New Sensation, Listed Dubbo Cup and Origin Match, and has been a finalist in the Group 1 Topgun, Rookie Rebel and The Phoenix.

“As everyone knows, he's a half brother to champion Tommy Shelby who has mated 80 bitches in the past 12 months,” said Clay.

“We believe our bloke will be attractive to broodbitch owners as well, especially daughters of Fernando Bale to recreate the pedigree of Tommy Shelby.”
