Kamikaze Cowlick Earns Queensland Futurity Tilt

UNDERRATED sprinter Kamikaze Cowlick booked herself a trip to Queensland for the Queensland Futurity with a stirring Maitland victory last Thursday.

UNDERRATED sprinter Kamikaze Cowlick booked herself a trip to Brisbane for the upcoming Group 2 Queensland Futurity with a stirring Maitland victory last Thursday evening.

The regally bred daughter of Barcia Bale and Tifi For Me extended her career record to 11 wins from 18 appearances at Maitland last Thursday, taking out her heat of the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Series (400m) in a smart 22.41.

"She hadn't seen Maitland before last Thursday so I couldn't have been more pleased with her effort – she really knuckled down late," declared her trainer Rod Newell.

“I'd been thinking about a trip to Queensland for the Futurity and for where she's at it looks ideal … against her own sex and grade.”

This Thursday, Kamikaze Cowlick exits box three at Maitland in the $4,400 to-the-winner Monthly Medal Final, before Newell embarks on a trip to Albion Park for the Queensland Futurity, carrying $40,000 to-the-winner, seven days later.

"I won't get to trial her at Albion Park the way the dates have fallen which isn't ideal," Newell added.

"When I took her to Wentworth Park for the first time to trial in September she went 5.42 early and 29.68 overall with an 11.81 run home so I know she can produce first up at tracks.

"If she can get through to the final she'll be all the better for the heat hit-out and being up against her own age and sex is a bonus. I definitely feel she's up to a race like this."

Kamikaze Cowlick goes into Thursday's Maitland assignment chasing four straight wins.
