BOOM youngster Louis Rumble heads to Wentworth Park on Saturday night for an Easter Egg Prelude (520m), the first time his owner-trainer Steve Kavanagh has been back to race at headquarters since Cosmic Rumble won the Egg back in 2010.

Louis Rumble (Fernando Bale-Joyce Rumble by Cosmic Rumble) comes to Wenty with a career of 14 starts for nine wins and four placings and is a last start 29.93 Albion Park winner.

But, Kavanagh has a warning for those planning to back Louis Rumble when he takes on a field of seasoned gallopers this Saturday night.

FIELDS AND FORM WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT

“He trialled at Wenty last week and the trial was not flash,” said Steve. “But he speared sideways and then stumbled on the mat at the boxes.

“After that he went fine, but he will not want to repeat that at the boxes on Saturday night.”

Kavanagh says the dog is a very smart sprinter, possessed of brilliant early pace, his best attribute.

“If he is not in front down the back straight … well,” said Steve.

Kavanagh took Louis Rumble and litter brother, Group 3 Vince Curry Maiden winner Rumble Ranger to trial in Sydney last week.

“Rumble Ranger went better but he will probably be aimed at the New Sensation,” he said. “He’s won three races and would not get a start in the Egg.”

Kavanagh says the first 50m will tell the story of Louis Rumble’s chances on Saturday night.

He said it has always been his training routine to trial his dogs on a track before racing them there.

“Especially in this race, the Golden Easter Egg, when you are taking on not the best dogs in Sydney, not the best dogs in Australia, but the best dogs in the world,” he said.

“Everything has to be done to give them their best chance of being competitive.”

Interestingly on Saturday night, Louis Rumble takes on Wenty star Sunburnt Highway the winner of 37 races in a 120-start career.

Sunburnt Highway had his first race at Wentworth Park even before Louis Rumble was whelped.

Talk about longevity.
