‘King' Kyrgios On The Verge Of Retirement

SUPERSTAR Zipping Kyrgios has only one, but hopefully two, more races before he is retired to begin his next career in the breeding barn.

SUPERSTAR Zipping Kyrgios has only one, but hopefully two, more races before he is retired to stud.

Minnie Finn said this today after the son of Aussie Infrared-Zipping Lilly had stormed home to win the Million Dollar Chase Richmond regional final (520m) on Friday night.

He ran 29.49 to down Chasing Fernando and kennelmate Gatlin for his 30th career victory in 70 starts to takes his stakes to $435,000.

“He's going as good as he has ever gone,” said Minnie.

“But Marty (Hallinan) and his family are keen to retire him on top and that's what we plan to do.

“He will run in the semi-finals of the Million Dollar Chase and hopefully the final and that will be it.”

Minnie said there was no way she would let the great dog leave her and husband John's kennels.

“Yes, we will stand him at stud here,” she said.

“No service fee has been decided on.”

Minnie said Zipping Kyrgios is racing as good as he was a year ago.

“It was great to see him bounce back,” she said. “He lost a little bit of confidence after he fell at Wenty back in April.

“He is such a great chaser and has a perfect temperament.

“And no one should forget he raced much of his career with a worrying stopper.”

Zipping Kyrgios will go to stud as the winner of the Black Top, Gosford Gold Cup, Bob Payne Sprint, The Collerson, Country Classic, Maitland Future Stars and the Chairman's Cup. He was a finalist in the Group 1 Easter Egg, Top Gun, Dapto Megastar, Gold Bullion and Temlee.

Minnie was also high in praise of Tania Keeping's performance in Friday night's final.

“My own dog Gatlin ran her off at the first turn but she was charging home and finished just behind the placegetters.”

The Hallinan/Finn combination landed four winners at Wentworth Park on Wednesday.

They were littermates Zipping Orlando in 3011 and Zipping Sabrina in 29.91, while Zipping Karen won in 29.92 and Zipping Alabama was sensational with a 29.52 victory.

“We've got a great team at the moment thanks to the Hallinans,” she said.
