King's New Sensation Bid Like Clockwork

JUSTIN King isn't exactly sure what to make of his box one draw with Twice As Wise in the opening heat of the Group 3 New Sensation (520m) at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

A superbly bred daughter of Dyna Double One and Clockwise, Twice As Wise made her city debut a successful one back on March 27, making full use of an ideal box eight draw to score in a slick 30.07.

"I'm not really sure what she's going to do off the inside on Wednesday night – I'd much rather her out wide," said King on Tuesday.

"She's normally a very reliable beginner and she's got a stack of pace off the ground but the worry is she does like to shift off and doesn't like dogs on her outside. You never knock back a box one but I would much rather her in eight."

Quoted a $6.50 chance with Bet365, favourtism for the fifth event this Wednesday night is shared between Fantastic Yankee (box five) and Cee Jay's Boy (box six) at $3.30 apiece.

"They look the speed in the race so my bitch will need to come out running and find the front so there's no pressure on her outside," added King.

"She was very green early on and is still learning now but there was a lot to like about her last win. She didn't begin great and had to work hard to hook around the leader Crowdza Coming. I know they have a bit of an opinion of him so it was a good effort – I'm hoping she can go on with it off that."

Winner at two of her six appearances, Twice As Wise is owned by Michael Brookes, no stranger to Easter success, claiming the 2017 Group 3 Magic Maiden Final with the Jodie Lagogiane-trained Blitzing Lass.

"He's a great owner to have on board," declared King.

"Blitzing Lass actually has a litter pups here to Fernando Bale, Michael invests a lot into the breeding side of things so it's good to see him get a nice one and I'm sure later on this bitch will make a nice brood bitch as well."

On a night of fantastic racing at headquarters this Wednesday, with five heats of the New Sensation joined by four semi-finals of the Magic Maiden, King is remaining cautiously optimistic about his prospects.

"She's a bitch that improves with a few looks at a track – her first trial at Wenty she went 30.50 to give you some idea. I've had her there since the win the other night so the few looks will do her good," added the Londonderry trainer.

"She's run 5.21 early at Richmond and if she could bring that kind of section to Wenty you'd say she'll lead but it really will come down to how she steps and whether she gets the front clearly.

"If she does she can break 30 and be hard to beat."
