JAY Opetaia is the first to admit the Group 1 National Futurity (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night has come a couple of months too early for Laura Keeping.
"But she is in the final and has a great chance," Jay said.
Laura Keeping (Fernando Bale-Ruby Keeping) has raced just seven times for four wins, all but one of them at Wentworth Park, including her 29.62 heat win last Saturday night.

"I was at Wenty one night some months ago, talking to Shayne Stiff, and he mentioned he and Charmaine have so many pups and race dogs," Jay added in pursuit of his first group 1 title.
"He promised he would give me a dog to train.
"Only a couple of weeks later, Shayne rang to say he had a bitch for me if I was interested."
It was Laura Keeping.
The wrap from education was good and the bitch had just finished a season.
"I took her to Goulburn for her first trial after I got her and she went 20.10," Jay said.

"The next week on a miserable windy day, she went 19.80."
Jay admits he put his money where his mouth way back in November and December at Laura Keeping's first two race starts.
"The only times I have backed her," he said.
She finished sixth on debut in the Future Stars Maiden heats at Maitland and then went to Wenty to finish second to Zipping Koster.
"After Maitland, I took her to Wenty for a post to post and she went 23.90," he said.
"I rang Shayne straight after the run and said ‘what have we got'."
Since then Laura Keeping has won four of her next five starts.
Of the Futurity final, Jay is confident she will be hard to beat.
"Sooty Keeping has a bit on the rest of us with experience, but she is not well drawn out there in the eight and could get trapped off the track," said Jay.
"Sooty Keeping is certainly the one to beat.
"I think the red (Taormina) will lead the final and I'm hoping Laura can slot in behind her and get the chance to run her down."
Plans for Laura Keeping after the Futurity depend on where she finishes.
"If she wins I will probably head to the Richmond Oaks but she will have to take on the big girls in that," said Jay. “If she is beaten, the plan will be to take her through her grades."
