‘Let Down': Aloisi Calls Time On Training Career

PROMINENT South Australian owner-trainer Tim Aloisi has made the “heart-wrenching” decision to call time on his training career.

PROMINENT South Australian owner-trainer Tim Aloisi has made the "heart-wrenching" decision to call time on his training career.

While still vowing to own and race "a few" greyhounds interstate, Aloisi said the decision was "tough" and walks away "extremely proud" of what he's been able to achieve.

"It's been a tough decision but at present I feel extremely let down by Greyhound Racing South Australia and I know there are a lot of other owners and trainers that feel the same," Aloisi said.

"I'm sick of giving my all to the sport here in SA to just feel continually let down.

"I look at my last 4-5 weeks of training and I have had the lure break down and or the boxes not open three times in my races.

"In my last three trial sessions I've had either no time or the timer not work and it's all really deflating.

"As a hobby trainer my trial times are huge for me to see where my dogs are at.

"I've just decided I'm over it and that my time is better spent with my family and friends rather than training dogs."

Aloisi said the appointment of Brenton Scott as GRSA CEO "has been great" but called for the Government to back the industry.

"I can genuinely see Brenton's doing his absolute best for the sport but it's going to be a tough battle if the Government doesn't get in there and back the industry soon," Aloisi said.

"I can walk away knowing I've given the sport my all here in SA.

"I've always presented and prepared my dogs the best I can and I will leave extremely proud.

"The welfare of the dogs in my care always came first and that is a factor in me walking away from the sport in SA as a trainer.

“Over the years I'd say I've given 15 other trainers here dogs as well.”

Since launching his training career in 2020 following years of successful ownership, Aloisi has chalked up 174 wins from just 400 runners at the glowing strike-rate of 43.5 per cent.

Some of his top line chasers included Shima Breeze, Stout Monelli, Zipping Neutron, Nations, Honcho Monelli, Raver's Army, Like Wildfire and Sunset Milo.

As a trainer, Aloisi holds the Angle Park track record over 595 metres with Stout Monelli, while Zipping Neutron holds the 730m time-standard at Mount Gambier.

In closing up the kennel, Aloisi has sent top stayers Black Silencer and Infra Rock to Queensland while Fire Chamber retired a winner last Monday.

"It's a sad day but it's what's best for me moving forward," Aloisi said.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped me over the years. It's a great sport full of so many terrific, hard working people.

“For the sport to move forward the participants need certainty and security and they just don't have that now.”
