GRAND campaigner Ninetymile King ended his race career when fourth in a Best 8 at Capalaba on Wednesday and will become a “couch potato”.

But, owner and trainer Bianca Whitford is following him into greyhound racing retirement as well.

“We have sold our Coominya property and are relocating to Cairns just before Christmas,” said Bianca.

Ninetymile King (My Bro Fabio-My Superstar) retires after 59 starts for 21 wins, 20 placings and brought into the kennel stakes earnings of $114,000.

But those stats do not tell the real story behind Ninetymile King.

Back in May 2021 the dog tore his Achilles tendon and his race career look all but over.

It wasn't until October that year before he made a comeback to racing with a first-up 19.80 victory at Capalaba.

“He's a very special dog,” said Bianca. “He's unique in the way he raced and the way he was himself.

“We are very proud of him.”

Despite a break from training, Bianca will stay involved as an owner.

“We have got pups from Ninetymile King's next litter, and four at 14 months old from one of his sisters,” she said.

“We are in the process of placing the dogs ready to go to the races, and once the pups are educated and pre-trained, we will find trainers for them as well.”

Ninetymile King proved himself a grand galloper.

He won the Listed Carnival Chase in 2021 and was a finalist in the G1 Gold Bullion, Listed Qld Flame and Listed Straight Of Origin.

“He was also a reserve for the Queensland Derby,” said Bianca.

His final race start at Capalaba on Wednesday saw him come from last “as usual” to get fourth behind On The Radar in 19.84.

“He was probably a bit outclassed in Best 8 company these days, but he still broke 20 seconds in the run,” said Bianca.
