Littermates Chasing Rich Wauchope Prize

HAAS and Scraping By have not drawn well, but partners Jimmy Gallaway and Julie King rate their chances highly at Wauchope this Friday.

LITTERMATES Haas and Scraping By have not drawn well, but partners Jimmy Gallaway and Julie King rate their chances highly again when they meet in the Harry Pledger & Norm Ahrens Appreciation Final (384m) at Wauchope on Friday.

The $10,000-to-the-winner feature event to celebrate Wauchope's first TAB meeting has drawn a select field which includes group 1 performer Ebby Infrared.

FIELDS AND FORM WAUCHOPE FRIDAY

Training legend Gallaway prepared Haas (Barcia Bale-Splash Of Magic) which is the winner of 15 races.

His partner, Julie King, trains litter brother Scraping By, the winner of six of his 18 starts.

But, Scraping By went the quickest of the heats of the series with a flying 21.31 performance.

Haas recorded 21.42, while Ebby Infrared went 21.60.

“We had planned to run Scraping By over 457m and trialled him over that prior to the heats,” said Julie.

“But, when we looked at the grades we decided Scraping By should go into the shorter race as well.”

She says Haas has the greater early pace, but Scraping By is the stronger of the two.

“We have to be worried by Ebby Infrared out there in the eight,” said Julie.

“He is a high class dog and we expect him to show great improvement from his heat.”

Julie said former star sprinter Splash Of Magic produced only the Barcia Bale litter.

“We got caught up in the midst of the proposed greyhound ban in NSW with her,” she said.

“Then she had her litter by Barcia Bale in 2018 and by that time she was already getting on.

“She's 10 years old now and beyond another litter which is a shame.”

Wauchope will host a series of feature events on the program this Friday which gets underway at 12.09pm.
